Recent advances in technologies, including stem cell culture, live imaging, single cell approaches, next generation sequencing, and genome editing, have lead to an unprecedented expansion in our knowledge on human development and heredity. Comparative studies between humans and other mammals have also shed light on evolutionary processes, and in turn provided critical insights into the mechanisms for key diseased states. Given this exciting progress and promising prospects in the relevant fields, we consider it highly important and timely to discuss our current understanding of human development, heredity, and evolution?C and to explore the possibilities that have opened up to reconstitute such processes in vitro using pluripotent stem cells and other stem cells. In this context, we would like to cover a broad range of highly relevant topics in the 2017 CDB symposium, including human germline development?C early embryogenesis, organogenesis from stem cells and relevant disease models, as well as human genetics and evolution. We hope that this Symposium will be a great opportunity to synthesize our current knowledge and open up future prospects in these areas.

The program of the 2017 CDB Symposium will feature presentations covering a broad range of topics, including (1) Germline/Early embryogenesis, (2) Epigenetics/Chromatic regulation, (3) Organogenesis from hPSCs/hSCs/Disease models, (4) Human Genetics/Evolution.

We encourage the submission of abstracts for the poster session from many scientists to increase opportunities for lively and informative exchange of views. A small number of poster abstracts will be selected for oral presentations. A limited number of travel fellowships for graduate students and post-docs traveling to Japan will also be available.

We look forward to seeing you in Kobe, Japan in March 2017.
